About Emily Isaacs

About Me

I hail from the Queen City: Charlotte, North Carolina. I was raised by my mom, who encouraged my creativity with “art parties” and fairy-house building. Growing up without cable television, I turned to my binder of DVD’s and what movies I could rent from Blockbuster to occupy my time, to be watched on repeat. When I had my fill of movies, I turned to my imagination, letting the compositions of John Powell and James Newton Howard whisk me away into my stories.

I graduated from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College with a BFA in film. I am a passionate artist and writer. I enjoy exploring a variety of art mediums, but my favorite is watercolor with pen and ink, as it was the first art medium that I learned with my mom. I appreciate the loose, flowing strokes of water color painting, and how quickly they capture the essence of a figure or scene.

My favorite parts of filmmaking are storyboards and shot development, and working in the art department. I also enjoy creating colorful lighting set ups and directing camera work.

My favorite genres of media are fantasy and horror; anything whimsical and creepy. I hope to one day publish a novel with an accompanying animated adaptation. This story is the main reason I went into film, and it’s the one thing I absolutely have to make (Murky Water is actually a short adapted from the larger story I’m developing).
